**Country of origin:** US
**Details:**
Created in 2004 by New York-based multimedia artist Jessica Findley as a
response to the destruction wrought in Lower Manhattan three years
prior, the
Aeolian Ride
renders every bicycle, no matter how dilapidated, beautiful. Riders don
hoods of Findley's design, which inflate as wind passes through them.
The sight of Aeolian riders at night (the name is an allusion to the
Greek god of the four winds), their hoods illuminated from within, is at
once spectral and cartoonish. Since the inaugural ride, events have
taken place in Rio de Janiero, Milan, Hong Kong and Los Angeles, as well
as in smaller cities such as Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Bremen, Germany.
